5/15 Hike to LaSalle Falls on the Pine River & Visit the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center

Friday 5/15 10:30 am to 3:30 pm Meet at LaSalle Falls Trailhead: Hike to LaSalle Falls on the Pine River & Visit the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center.

Spring in Wisconsin is the best time to visit the state’s many waterfalls with all the meltwater coming off the landscape.  So now is the prime time to go!!  This event will take us to the Pine River in Florence County with a one mile hike into LaSalle Falls and a visit to the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center in Florence, Wisconsin. To learn more about LaSalle Falls (photos and video) and the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center google search LaSalle Falls Florence County and also the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center Florence, Wi.  We will meet at the trailhead at 10:30 am and hike the 1 mile established trail to the falls. One time I was there I sat below the falls and watched trout jumping trying to work their way up stream.  People kayak LaSalle Falls and you have to wonder how they come out at the bottom still in their boat.  After checking out the falls we can head up to Florence about 10 miles and visit the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center. Here you will learn about the initiative to protect these three wild rivers. Pine, Popple and the Pike, and why they are called the original wild rivers. Things to bring may include: camera, appropriate footwear and clothing, bug spray, snacks/lunch and water.   Some of the roads to get to the trailhead (2.4 miles) are gravel/sand but drivable at slower speeds.   Directions from Rhinelander:  (1 hr 35 min)  From the intersection of Lincoln Street and Hwy 17 (Walgreens) take Hwy P to Hwy 8 (turn left, east).  Hwy 8 to Crandon and turn left onto Hwy 101 to Fence. Turn right (east) onto Hwy C to Hills Creek Dam Road (turn left, north) to Range Road (turn left, north) to the intersection of Range Road, Pine flowage Road and LaSalle Falls Road. Turn left onto LaSalle Falls Road and cross Halls Creek and the trailhead parking lot is on the right  (2733 LaSalle Falls Access Rd Florence.)  Hope you can make it to this unique NPT event.  –  J
