Saturday, Sept 19th, 2026. Bike the Conover – Phelps Bike Trail, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 pm, meet at the Conover Town Park Trailhead.
Mark your calendars for this NPT event, because it’s going to be a lot of fun. Not only are we going to bike the trail, but we are going to bike right smack into the Phelps Scarecrow Fall Festival. According to the Phelps Chamber of Commerce, there will be the crowd-favorite “Pumpkin Chuckin, car show, huge craft fair, lots of great food and drinks with free chilli, live entertainment and more. The “Pumpkin Chuckin” is something we don’t want to miss.
Starting in Conover we will bike the 11 miles to the town of Phelps and when done in Phelps will bike back to our vehicles. The trailhead in Conover, is in the Conover Town Park which has parking, water, picnic areas, bicycle repair station and restrooms. Let’s meetup by the restroom building. Most of the trail is packed gravel with a special bonding material and the last 3 miles is paved. The trail follows an old Northwestern railroad grade and goes through national forest and Vilas county lands meandering through woodlands and wetlands. There are three scenic water crossings in the first three miles. Wearing a bike helmet is strongly encouraged on all NPT biking events.
Directions from Eagle River, WI: Take Hwy 45 north to Conover and turn right (east) on to Co Hwy K, less than a mile the trailhead (Town Park) will be on your right. Again, let’s meetup by the restroom building. If you go past the post office and fire department buildings you went too far. Hope to see a bunch of you NPT bikers on this adventure. – J
