Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, 10:30 – 3:00 pm. Meet at the Crystal Lake beach parking lot.
This time we are heading up to the Boulder Junction area to bike on a segment of the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System from Crystal Lake State Campground to Cathedral Point, between South and North Trout Lake. Let’s meet at the Crystal Lake beach parking lot which is to the left (first stop sign) after passing the DNR contact office. Your vehicle will need a state park sticker which can be purchased at the entrance if you do not have one. We will take a relaxing 8 mile bike ride through the Northern Highlands State Forest along the east shore of Trout Lake to the pinch point where both lakes meet. Very pretty picnic spot where in the summer there is a great swimming hole and shore fishing. It should be about lunch time when we arrive, so bring your lunch and favorite beverage along with you. When we finish lunch, we will retrace our ride back to our vehicles. There is the possibility of a social hour after the ride for those who wish to participate. Wearing a biking helmet is strongly recommended on any NPT bike event. – Hope to see you on the trail. – J
Directions from Rhinelander: (app.50 min) Starting at the intersection of Hwy K and 47, travel north to Woodruff and turn right on Hwy 51. Turn right off of Hwy 51 onto County Hwy M and right onto County Hwy N toward Sayner. Turn left into the Crystal Lake/Muskie campground entrance.
A donation of $5.00 is requested for non-NPT members which can be paid at the event. Your $5.00 will pay for your membership into NPT through December 31st.
