The NPT Book Club monthly meeting will be Monday, October 12th at the Rhinelander District Library from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. in the lower level conference room. All NPT members are invited to attend any of the monthly meetings. The major theme of the books that are selected are based on some aspect of nature. You’re welcome to join in at any time, or just sit in and listen to our lively discussions. The book that will be discussed on October 12th is a nonfiction memoir entitled, H Is for Hawk, by Helen Macdonald. This book was made into a motion picture and won a number of awards in the literary world. The story centers around the author’s loss of her father and how she used falconry to cope with her grief. She purchased and trained Mabel, a goshawk. The reader will gain an appreciation for the commitment it takes to be a falconer, the human connection to a wild animal as well as the unique predator abilities of hawks. After the discussion the members present will decide on our future books to read Copies of this book are reserved for us at the reference desk by mentioning Northern Paddle and Trail.
